ECM-98T & ECM-9800 Electronic Coin Mechanism
Daily/Sunday Changeover Lock replaced by software
Over the years we have heard a lot of complaints from our customers regarding the Daily/Sunday Changeover Lock. Locks freeze up in the winter and have to be thawed out with a torch, are frequently vandalized and must be keyed differently from those of competing papers to eliminate potential of someone else changing their vend price. In addition, Monday sales are lost if the person filling rack forgets to change the lock setting.
We have seen many instances of vandals inserting foreign objects into a lock so that the key will not work. While the old lock for the Mechanical Totalizer could be disassembled and cleaned out, the newer changeover locks used with Electronic Coin Mechanisms are sealed and cannot be cleaned out. Therefore, such locks must be replaced and that is quite expensive.
By using a Service Token and a combination of valid coins, the ECM’s can be moved to any of the three available vend settings. The LED indicator, mounted in place of the old lock, is only used to confirm to person filling the rack that the correct price has been set. See OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS for full details. The LED indicator has no effect on the operation of the Coin Mechanism in the event it is damaged or destroyed.
With the old Mechanical Totalizers all locks had to be keyed alike but had to be different than other newspaper racks in the same sales area. If the locks had to be re-keyed, it was costly and required a lot of effort. With the ECM, the Changeover Service Token can be re-calibrated in the field in less than one minute. Thus if a Newspaper or a distributor is concerned that some other party has obtained their Service Tokens, they can easily and quickly re-key all of their racks to a new Service Token. See OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS for more information.
