ECM-98T & ECM-9800 Electronic Coin Mechanism

Service person
Opens Rack with Single Service Token

With the old Mechanical Totalizer, the person filling the rack needs to use one or more steel slugs to open rack and to verify that the mechanism is operable. This requires carrying a lot of slugs every day and they must later be separated from the good coins and returned to person filling racks.

The ECM’s uses a single SERVICE TOKEN that is inserted into coin slot and then returns to person filling rack after pushing Coin Return Button. After returning the Service Token, the LED (located in same place as old changeover lock), blinks once to indicate that Coin Mechanism is fully operable and that the door has been unlocked. See OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS for more information.

By returning the SERVICE TOKEN we have eliminated the need for multiple slugs as well as the need to later sort slugs from the coin collection box. We have also done a complete diagnostics check on all working aspects of Coin Mechanism, including battery, so that we are assured that the ECM is fully operable.

The BATTERY TEST is accomplished as follows. Since Cold Temperature causes some voltage drop in all Batteries, the best time to test the battery is at the coldest part of the day. Typically the coldest part of the day is the same time that the rack is refilled. When the Service Token is recognized, the ECM-98T first turns on the LED indicator and then fires the solenoid while the LED is still on drawing more power than when the Mechanism is utilized by a person purchasing a paper. Therefore if the ECM works for the person filling the rack, you can be assured that it will operate later in the day since the temperature is usually warmer and the LED is not turned on when a paper is sold.
